Self motivation; How to keep working when you are not feeling like doing it
*HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF*
----------------------------------------------------
Why are you not able to achieve success, nobody in this world is lucky to have great success, who is stopping you.... It's your thoughts and self motivation. Don't give the excuses, If you want, go and get it. Solution will follow if you try. If you read success stories of great achievers, there is one common thing... high self motivation & self believe.
*Remember...* The biggest source of motivation is your own thoughts so think positively.
🔴 *How to motivate yourself?*
Motivation comes in waves. Today we get out of the bed by watching motivational videos on Youtube or reading short stories, ready to take on all challenges. We dream big and believe yourself that we're going to accomplish whatever we have been dreaming. And suddenly the next day, we get demotivated and we can't seem to get that spark back. Whenever you try to start studying or lose weight, give yourself some continued encouragement to keep going by using the following tips.
*In short...* Some days you wake up motivated - ready to go and some days you wake up demotivate - find hard to get going.
❇️ *Go back to why?*
Whenever you don't feel like working hard for your goal, remind yourself why you have started like you want to prove your worth in front of your uncle by getting an MBBS seat. You need strong reasons like running 10 km with friends to lose weight - will motivate you rather than a goal like getting healthy. Always write down the reason why you want and tell yourself the benefits of getting done. Make a flash card - your goal & reason why you want and stick in front of you like in a bedroom.
*In short...* Push yourself because no one else is going to do it for you.
❇️ *Limited offer*
Always remind yourself that you got limited time on the earth and today is a good day for something great. Maximum students fail to work hard during the initial stage of the curriculum as the exam is too far so make a timetable for that curriculum. Read my blog "Planning".
Example : If you are preparing for the IIT exam from class 11, make a timetable for 2 year and remind yourself that time is limited.
*In short...* Your time is limited so don't waste it.
❇️ *Positive self talk*
The only person whose opinion matters the most is your own thought or self talk. Self talk is internal dialogue, everyone does.. Willingly or unwillingly. It is influenced by our subconscious brain and it reveals your thought, belief, ideas & question. Research shows positive self talk enhances your performance and vice versa for negative self talk.
Eg: If there is a discussion in a class where every student gets an opportunity to speak if they wish.... There are normally Two sets of thought in a person:
▪️ I have never done this before and it will look foolish if I speak something wrong.
▪️ This is a wonderful opportunity to do something new and will prepare extra, so I can also participate.
*Remember...* Your body hear everything that your mind says
🔹 How do we talk to ourselves?
The way we talk to ourselves is the most important aspect in shaping who we became. When we target high or try out of our comfort zone, it's the most difficult time. You're excited and willing to work hard. The words we use to speak to ourselves during this critical period will have a huge impact. Maximum students start talking negatively as soon as some obstacles start emerging. And you will eventually start believing those inner words about yourself even if it is not true.
*In short....* Be mindful of your self talk, it's a conversation with the universe.
🔹How to stop negative self talk?
▪️ Identify negative self talk immediately. Is it becoming negative? How can I turn around?
▪️Say STOP
As you realize negative self talk, shout on yourself by saying Stop. Saying in a loud voice is a powerful way to stop your thought process.
▪️ Addressing oneself in a third person. Ask yourself questions about how you will talk to your friend if your friend is talking negatively.
▪️ Change your position
Talk to yourself as you are trying to explain to your friend to look forward and work hard.
▪️ Most important
Telling yourself what to do is better than just telling I can do it.
Example: If you can't play bouncer ball in cricket, say I will practice intentionally bouncer ball for next 1 week.
*In short...* If we can encourage and talk positively with our friend. Why we can't talk to ourselves
🔹 When to do self- talk intentionally?
▪️ Feeling disappointed like after result
▪️ Feel like giving up if results are consistent low
▪️ Feeling nervous before event like a big exam
▪️ Feeling like I am not good in an event like participation in debate
▪️ When someone insulted you
*Remember...*
Be careful how you are talking to yourself because you are listening
🔹 What do you say to yourself intentionally?
▪️Iam the best
▪️I will do it.
▪️No one can stop me from achieving my dream.
*In short...* Self talk is the most powerful form of communication because it either empowers you or it defeats you.
❇️ Reward yourself
Remind yourself... How you used to feel when your parents used to offer chocolate after you had completed the task in early childhood. If anyone is praised for good work, he or she gets motivated to work more harder as your guardian used to do in the early part of life. Because it works.
In short, Action and reward are closely related. But the problem is that the whole world including parents praise for big achievement not for small achievement as you become old. So, you can reward yourself for small progress or achievement if no one is doing it for you.
*Remember...* Celebrate small victories because no one else understands what it took to accomplish them.
❇️ How to reward ourselves?
Everytime you accomplish a task like going to work out for 7 days without holiday, reward yourself even if there is no weight loss.
It could be a small reward like eating chocolate or ice-cream or taking a break from work. Any reward, small or big helps in motivating yourself. The key thing is making sure the reward makes you happy. So don't eat ice cream on the weekend if you don't accomplish your small target.
*In short...* Rewarding yourself is not stupid, it's important and absolutely necessary.
❇️ Make positive book of own
Write a short book about your past success, your hard work and how you felt after achieving your goal. You can re-read the book again whenever you feel demotivated.
*In short...* Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you will start having positive results.
❇️ Meet successful students.
Don't miss the opportunity to meet successful students as it motivates you to achieve similar success....
🔹Can get few tips
🔹 Wish to get same recognition as he or she is getting after success.
*Remember...* One day or day one, you decide
❇️ Join the group with same goal
As you move to higher education, you will come across a lot of new friends. You may spend more time with your friends compared to your family. You will probably develop close friendships with one or two friends or join a group of 5 to 10 students. You might feel so connected to them that they are like extended family. You and your friends will make a lot of decisions and you will influence each other's choices and behavior. It will have positive effect or negative effect depending upon your type of friends.
*In short...* We became average of 5 people with whom we associate
🔹 Choose friends carefully
Remember a few points while choosing friends...
▪️ Be friendly with everyone
▪️ Same goal... If your close friends are having a same goal then it helps to grow in that choice of career
▪️ Class toppers... Try to spend maximum time with toppers (Even if they are not best friends) as it will motivate you to work hard.
▪️ Always choose friends who have good moral values like honesty, respect for teachers or elders, having a compassionate nature, never cheat others and able to adjust or compromise.
This is the most important aspect while choosing friends
▪️ Finally they must belong to a good family background with good moral values.
*In short...* Tell me your friends, I will predict your future
❇️ Know Your button
Whether you realize it or not, motivation is a must in order to excel and it needs to be harnessed for keep going. Everyone gets motivated by some force, it may be...
▪️ A mentor who knows you very well and you feel motivated whenever you talk to him or her.
▪️ You can get motivated by watching movie or listening song
▪️ You can get motivated by watching motivational videos or reading a book.
So know your button which triggers you to work hard.
*In short...* A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.
